For Mom

Mother's Day is almost here and I figured it was time to get cracking on a Mother's Day card.  I'm featuring a couple of products from Scrappy Tails Crafts.    I'll be using Oopsy Daisy and the Slimline Bird House pop up dies.  I may not be using them quite in the way you expect but I love to get as many different looks out of items in my stash as possible.

Let's take a look at my card and then we can talk about the process.

I was inspired to create a no line colored card.  I was just admiring the Oopsy Daisy stamp set while working on a different project and was struck by inspiration.

I started by cutting a piece of watercolor cardstock down to a 4" x 4" square.  I inked up the daisy stamp in Ink on 3 Fadeout ink and stamped it on one of the corners.  I repeated it 3 more times until I had a daisy stamped in each corner.  I opted to use Distress Ink markers this time.  I scribble them onto my palette and spritz with water.  This way I can control how light or dark the color turns out.  

I used Peeled Paint to color all of the stems, vines and leaves.  I used Dusty Concord for the flower petals.

In the next picture you can see the petals in various stages of coloring.

And here they are with the majority of the petails colored.

In the next picture you can see that I added a mix of Spiced Marmalade and Ground Espresso for the flower centers.  I also took the Dusty Concord marker and added back in some of the details that got lost.

I added the square to a matching piece of purple cardstock.  I then took a green cardstock and cut it out using the scalloped window die from the Slimline Bird House pop up die set.  I glued it right in the center of the flowers.  This helps to hide some of the messy bits where the flowers overlapped.  I splattered the entire panel with a gold spray.

For the purple letters I also used dies from the Slimline Bird House pop up die set.  The set actually spells out HOME but hey, it had the letters I needed!   I smushed my Versamark ink pad on the lower part of the letters.  Then I sprinkled on gold embossing power and melted it with my heat tool.

They rest of the card came together quickly.  I glued the square panel on an off white A2 sized card base, added a stamped sentiment and a few accent stickers.  That's it!  I hope my mother-in-law loves her card!

Darling Flowers for Mom

Today I am using Darling Flowers to create a mini slimline Mother's Day card.

I took the open flower and flipped the image.  I placed them at opposite ends of my image.  Then I added the Mom sentiment over top.  I printed it out onto Neenah Desert Storm cardstock.

Before coloring, I went ahead and cut my panel out with the scalloped panel die from Trinity Stamps Mini Slimline Card & Envelope set.  This way I would be sure to not mess up my coloring when I die cut it.

For the white on my flowers I used Prismacolor pencils.  White, Warm Gray 30% and Warm Gray 50%.  I started with very light layers.  I used the Warm Gray 50% to lay in some petal details.  I continued layer the three colors until I got the perfect blend.

For the flower centers I also used Primsmacolor pencils.  Pumpkin Orange, Yellowed Orange and Sunburst Yellow.  There is just a tiny bit of the stem and leaf bits in the image.  For those I used Marine Green and Celadon Green.

I adhered the panel to a piece of black cardstock.  I put foam tape on the back of the black panel and added it to the Desert Storm card base.

The last details I added were Gloss White Nuvo drops.  And that's a wrap!  May your day be full of crafty fun.

Mother's Day

Hello there!  I'm happy to welcome you to my blog today.  Today's post is going to be short but sweet.  Sometimes I'm a procrastinator when it comes to making a card.  Let's say Mother's Day is coming up.  You keep meaning to sit down and make that card and well, you just don't.  Thankfully Polka Dot Orchard has come to the rescue with a super fabulous digital stamps set for Mother's Day.  The best thing is you can order it and get instant delivery since it is a digital stamp!  That's what I call instant gratification.  To make it even better, it's on SALE right now!  The set is called A Mother's Love.

Isn't it lovely!  So, like I said, I was in a bit of a hurry to get a card made.  This set is so beautiful on it's own that you really can make a card lickety split!  Let's look at the card and then I'll fill in some details.

I layered the image and the sentiment together in my editing program.  I lightened the mother image so that the sentiment would be more prominent.  I then printed it out onto watercolor paper.  Next I got out my lovely set of Prima Vintage Pastels watercolors and my Silver Black Velvet size 6 round brush.  I carefully went around the outside of the entire image with clean water. Then I came back and started dropping in the color called Breezy.  I deepened the shadows in a few places and called it done.  That's it.  That is all the coloring I'm doing for this image.  

Once it was dry, I cut it down to 4 1/2" x 6 1/2".  I wanted this to end up being a 5" x 7" card.  I cut a frame slightly larger out of a dark pink cardstock.  Then a floral piece of paper cut at 5" x 7".  I adhered all of the pieces to a Neenah Solar White card base using liquid glue.  I went over the word "mom" with a Spectrum Noir sparkle pen.  For a final bit of decoration, I added a few drops of Cloud 9 Nuve Dream drops.  A new favorite of mine!

I love when a stamp image is just so pretty that you don't have to do alot to end up with a gorgeous card.  Like I said, this was super quick to put together and I think it looks fabulous!  No one even has to know I made it last minute...
