Birthday Dogs

Welcome back to my crafty corner!  Today I'm playing 2 Cute Ink's June Patreon exclusive digi stamps.  They are called Birthday Dogs and boy are they cute!  You can find out all of the details on how to join and get access to these cuties HERE.

Here are the two cards I created!

My backgrounds are all gel prints that I created.  I used them as the inspiration for the colors I used on my cards.  I wanted to show you can have lots of color and details on your cards without actually doing a lot of coloring.

I really love the versatility that digital stamps give you.  Make them big.  Make them small.  Do whatever works for you!

Come join the cutest digitial stamp club ever!  If you want to see what the June exclusive set looks like, you can go HERE.  And the direct link to the Patreon page is HERE.

Have a craft-tastic day!

PDO Collaboration Wednesday

Happy Wednesday my friends!  Today I am back with a fellow crafter who was up for a collaboration challenge!  Her name is Kirsty Lowden and you can find her blog HERE.  I found Kirsty on Instagram and asked her if she'd be willing to play along.  She graciously accepted.

I let her pick the Polka Dot Orchard stamp set, a color palette and a sketch.  For the stamp set she picked Wander Often.

For the color palette she chose The Color Throwdown 563.

And for the sketch she chose Freshly Made Sketches 404.

I'll show you my finished card and then I'll get to all of the details.

I started by printing the fish out onto vellum paper and cutting it down to a smaller size.

I flipped it over to work on the back side.  I find this to be the best method when I want to color on vellum with Copic markers.  Here is what it looked like on the BACK when I was finished coloring.

And here's what it looks like from the FRONT.

The Copic colors I used are V17, RV19, 17,14 and RV09.

I looked through my paper stash and couldn't find anything with just the right colors so I made my own plaid background.  I love to make plaid backgrounds with Copic markers and it doesn't take that much time to do.  Grab a piece of cardstock, a ruler and your Copics.  I used the same Copic colors as above but added in YG17.

Isn't it pretty??  I have all of the basic pieces so let's get to building a card!

I cut the plaid piece down to 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".  I glued it onto a 5 1/2" sqaure card base made out of 110lb Neenah Solar White.  I cut the vellum piece down to a 4" square.  I used a liquid glue behind some of the darker coloring to add it to a 4 1/4" square piece of white cardstock.  I then glued the white layer down to a piece of purple metallic cardstock.  I applied foam tape to the back of the whole panel and adhered it to the plaid paper.

I printed the "Celebrate you" sentiment from the same stamp set onto white cardstock.  I cut it out with an oval die.  I cut another piece of white cardstock using a scalloped oval die slightly larger than the sentiment oval.  I colored the scalloped oval with the YG17 Copic to help tie in the green from the plaid piece.  I put foam tape on the back and added it to the card.

For the finishing touch I added purple, pink and green sequins.

This is the first time I have worked with the Wander Often stamp set and I love it!  I have had a blast working with Kirsty and want to remind you to go check out her take on this.  You can find her blog HERE.

Have a fabulous day!

Same but different - Best Pumpkin

Hi friends!  I have gotten together with fellow Polka Dot Orchard design team member Judy Markowitz to bring you something new!  We are doing a 'same but different' blog post!  We both start out using the same Polka Dot Orchard stamp set and color scheme.  Then we see what we each come up with.  I hope you find it a bit fun and exciting.  I having been wanting to do this for a long time and am glad Judy agreed to give it a go!

We are using The Best Pumpkin stamp set.

And I picked a past color palette from the Color Throwdown.  I love their color themes!

Now let's take a peek at the card I came up with!

I love the vintage feel to my card!  Not to mention, who says pumpkins always have to be orange?  I printed the stamp out onto Copic friendly cardstock.  This one is Cryogen White cardstock.  I love it because it itsn't a super bright white and it has a bit of a metallic shimmer to it.

Here are the Copic colors I used:

Pumpkins: E79, 77, 74, 71
Stem & Leaves: YG99, 95, 93, 91
Flower center: R29, 24, 22
Flower: Y19, 15, 11

I do list my markers in the order in which I color.  My preference is to color from dark to light.  Just thought I'd mention it!

After I colored the image in with my Copics, I used my Scan n Cut to cut the image out with a little bit of a border.  Now to get my card put togeter.

My card base is an ivory A2, side fold card.  I added to different patterned papers from Authentique's Gracious paper pad.  I'm not normally a vintage type gal but I really love Authentique's collections.  They are cut to 4" wide and together are 5 1/4" tall.  I had a pice of dark yellow organdy ribbon and a wrapped it around the pattern pieces right where they meet.  I added foam tape to the back of the pumpkins and adhered them right on top of the ribbon.  I made sure to keep the top of the pumpkins right below the ribbon.

The sentiment also comes from The Best Pumpkin set.  I printed it on the same cardstock I used for the pumpkins so the colors would be the same.  I didn't want the sentiment to be in one big block so I cut it apart.  Then I turned the Hello sideways so it would fit at the top of the card.  I snipped the bottom end off at an angle.  I then put the 'pumpkin' portion of the sentiment below the pumpkins.

For the finishing touch I added brown and matte gold sequins in assorted sizes.  That's it!  I really appreciate you stopping by and I hope you will head over to Judy's blog HERE to see what she came up with!

Have a fab day!

Stay Beautiful

It's a long holiday weekend so that means I had the opportunity to work on my next Altenew Educator Certification program project!  This class was called Polychromatic.  As you can imagine, this class focused on ways to use multiple colors on your projects.    The instructor is the fabulous Nina-Marie Trapani!

My favorite lesson was the one that did watercoloring with similar colors.  Plus, I recently got my hands on some black watercolor paper and I was itching to try it out!

Let me walk you through my process.

I chose to use the lovely Leaf Clusters set.  My watercolors are Finetec Mica watercolors.  These show up so well on the black watercolor paper.  I added small amounts of water to the paint pans.  Then I used a damp paint brush to pick up the color.  I dabbed the paint gently onto the stamp.  I stamped it onto the watercolor paper and held it in place for a bit.  This was so that the paints could absorb into the paper.

Once the images were dry, I cut them out using the matching dies.  Now that I could see the stamp outline clearly, I went back with some lighter, similar colors to add a bit of detail.

I cut another piece of the black watercolor paper and got to work on a background.  I used three of the same colors I had used on the stamps to create a wash background.  I then cut it out with a scalloped rectangle die.

I cut a scalloped white oval as a centerpiece for my card.  I played around with the layout until I was happy with it!

I adhered the watercolor wash panel onto a top fold, A2 white card base.  I added foam tape to the back of the white oval and glued it in place.  Then I used liquid glue to add the flowers.  I did trim off the leaves that hung over the edge of the card.

Now to add the final touches!  I stamped the sentiment using Stay Beautiful from Geometric Flowers and Friend from Frosted Garden.  I then glued the sentiment rectangle onto a piece of vellum just slightly larger.  I also added foam tape to the back of it before adhering it on top of the flowers.  And last, but not least, I added a sprinkling of sparkling clear sequins.

I hope you have enjoyed my project today!
